ABOUT ALEATEIA
The one thing which characterizes the group is Change. Looking back over our many performances we realize how different each one was, and yet how similar. The wit, the humour, the grotesque and the originality give each one of our productions the unmistakable Aleateia brand.
Be it farce (Il-Kaxxa – 1997), experimental (Ghalxejn – 1994), absurd (Xi Haga f’Att Wiehed – 1993), surreal (Blazing Orchids – 2000), playful (On Hold – 1999), parodic (Helen of Troy – 2001), translation (Veronica Franco – 2001), grandiose (Millennium Celebrations 1999), fragmentary (Is-Sellum – 1996) and poetic (A Heap of Broken Images – 1999), the dedication that goes into each play is always the same: Rigorous.
Although we do make use of costume and make-up, we are not dependent on them because we want the emphasis of our work to always be on the actors’ acting and reacting to text and to each other. For the same reason, we make use of very few props and simple, minimal sets. Voice, movement, expression and poetry make up each work.
The Aleateia logo consists of an unbroken circle
of arrows around the name. It was inspired by Deleuze and Guattari's belief
that the self is 'a flux of desires and intensities which both shoot out
in many directions and absorb many influences' [Glenn Ward, 1997]. Aleateia
is thus seen as an individual with the actors, audiences, ets. making
up its 'intensities'. |
